Q. How do I request a catalog?
A. Join the Canter mailing list or request to be contacted by a Canter graduate course representative.
Q. Where is my email confirmation with login instructions?
A. An email with the log-in instructions for your online course will be sent within 2 business days of registration. If you did not receive the email with login instructions for accessing your online course(s), please check your spam or junk folder. Please add the domain @canter.net to your email safe senders list to ensure that you receive Canter communications.
Q. Teachers in our district need graduate credit for licensure renewal, salary advancement, and master’s electives. How do Canter courses apply?
A. Many teachers have taken Canter graduate courses and have used the credits for salary advancement, licensure renewal, and electives in master’s degree programs. As with any course, you should always check with your district office and/or state department of education before enrolling.
Q. How can I get supporting course information to present to my district or program for approval?
A. Each online course description includes an option to download a course overview. We recommend you use the overview to share with your principal, school district representative, or other individuals. Sample course packages are also available by calling 1-800-669-9011.
Q. What does the course tuition cover?
A. Canter tuition includes graduate credit, textbooks, and DVDs as well as shipment costs (United States and Canada).
For print & DVD format courses, there is a $30 book fee for the Course Study Guide. The fee will be added to your tuition. Other materials include DVDs, a course textbook, journal articles, and a course information packet.
For online format courses, all materials except the course textbook will be provided through the online classroom. Videos will also be provided on DVD as backup to streaming video online.
For Read4Credit™ courses, ebooks will be provided in electronic format. Access information for ebooks will be provided by email within 2 business days of registration.
Q. I only have an associate's degree (A.A.). Can I take Canter courses?
A. Canter offers graduate courses; therefore, you must have a bachelor's degree or above to enroll and receive credit.
Q. I've never taken a distance-learning course. What if I don't like it?
A. Consider the “No-Risk Registration” option. With No-Risk Registration, you enroll in the course on a trial basis. If after 15 days you're not completely satisfied, call us to withdraw from the course, return the course materials, and receive a full refund. Read4Credit™ students have 48 hours following receipt of access to withdraw from the course and receive a full refund.
Q. Why do I need a study partner? (Applies only to 3-credit graduate courses.)
A. Research clearly indicates that adults learn best in cooperative groups. Course activities encourage collaboration with your peers and reinforce learning. If you choose a print format course, you will be asked to select a study partner. You may choose a teaching colleague or peer coach. Your study partner is not required to be enrolled in your same Canter course or any Canter course. If you choose an online course, collaboration will take place through online discussion boards.
Q. If I do not need graduate credit, may I still take a Canter course?
A. Yes. Canter offers a non-credit, materials-only version of our courses for $245. It is available only in print & DVD format, not online. Coursework is not submitted and no feedback is provided. Please call 1-800-669-9011 to speak with a graduate course representative for more details.
Q. Are both PCs and Macs compatible with your online course format?
A. Yes, you may use either a PC or a Mac for Canter courses in the online format. Please review the system requirements.
Q. What do I do if I have additional questions?
A. If you have general questions about registering for a course, course prices, or special discounts, please contact us. If you have questions about the coursework, course content, grades, or transcripts, please call a Canter graduate course representative at 1-800-669-9011.
Q. Can I take a course if I'm not located in the United States?
A. Yes, many students have taken advantage of our self-paced format to study outside of the United States. You may incur an additional UPS International shipment fee, since all Canter courses (in both the print & DVD and online formats) include course materials, such as a textbook and DVDs. Please contact us at inquiry@canter.net so that we can verify the shipment costs and your international address format. There is no extra shipping charge when mailing to an APO/FPO address.
