Imagine your excitement in having a repertoire of proven strategies that will spark creative teaching in you and creative thinking in your students. This graduate-level course focuses on the important role creativity plays in student learning and achievement, and explores the process and strategies that lead to a classroom where creative teaching and learning thrive. Learn the current research on creativity while you study the attitudes and best practices of creative teachers and learners. Participate in project-based learning experiences to promote creativity and enhance student learning.
Teaching Tangibles
- Examine and analyze characteristics, attitudes, and dispositions related to creativity.
- Analyze how you can build attitudes and dispositions that promote creativity in your students.
- Identify ways to improve the psychological safety of your classrooms in order to foster creativity.
- Develop a plan to improve your classroom culture to better support and guide creative teaching and learning.
- Plan lessons using metaphorical thinking, creative problem solving, and more to promote creativity.

Sara Armstrong, Ph.D.
Dr. Sara Armstrong is an associate of the Thornburg Center for Professional Development and serves on the board of directors of the Global SchoolNet Foundation, the Center for Accessible Technology, and the River School Advisory Councils. She consults on professional development and project-based learning in schools around the United States, as well as with the MY HERO Project, the Buck Institute for Education, CUE (Computer-Using Educators, Inc.), Lake Washington School District, and Technology & Learning. Dr. Armstrong is writing a book on project-based learning in the elementary classroom for the Buck Institute.
Vicki Davis
Vicki Davis, a classroom teacher, co-created the Flat Classroom Projects including the Digiteen Project and the Horizon Project. These award-winning, international projects have connected thousands of students in more than 10 countries and 40 classrooms. The Flat Classroom project won the Edublog award for Best Wiki in 2006 and 2008, and the Horizon Project was a finalist for Best Wiki in Education in 2007. Her blog, the Cool Cat Teacher blog, won Best Teacher Blog in 2008 by the Edublog awards. Ms. Davis is a Google-certified teacher and Discovery S.T.A.R. educator who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, Technology & Learning, and Learning & Leading.
Chris Dede, Ph.D.
Dr. Chris Dede is the Timothy E. Wirth Professor of Learning Technologies at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education. Dr. Dede's fundamental interest is the expanded human capabilities for knowledge creation, sharing, and mastery that emerging technologies enable. His research spans emerging technologies for learning, infusing technology into large-scale educational improvement initiatives, policy formulation and analysis, and leadership in educational innovation. He also is active in policy initiatives, including creating a widely used State Policy Framework for Assessing Educational Technology Implementation and studying the potential of developing a scalability index for educational innovations.The following course materials are included in the cost of tuition and will be delivered directly to you.:

This is a graduate-level course; therefore, you must have a bachelor's degree or above to enroll and receive credit.
Earning Graduate Credit
Total coursework for this course is equivalent to a 45 contact-hour course. Graduate credit will be issued when you successfully complete the following course requirements:
- Collaborate with study partner(s) (Print & DVD format only).
- Collaborate with colleagues through discussion boards (Online format only).
- View video segments.
- Complete required text/journal readings, assignments, and the final paper.
